Float tanks have come a long way since John C. Lilly’s sensory deprivation experiments of the 1950s and 60s. A float session is usually 60 minutes long, during which a patient will float in heavily salted water in an enclosed pod that looks like it could escape any battle class starship in a pinch. While inside, the patient has access to an intercom system, can turn on a small light when needed – in an array of colors, and listen to a choice of music, recorded therapy program, or just be in silence.
